Farewell 2019!

Overall

This year I released two songs, and made some substantial progress on some WIPs as well. Even though I didn’t get to release everything as I would have liked, I’m pretty satisfied with the work I’ve done this year. I also have a website now, which means that in addition to my Twitter, updates that would be a bit lengthy will be posted here.

Lord Night

Firstly, I released Lord Night! This song is really dear to me as I stated on Twitter upon release. This song is dedicated, and in memory of Avalia.

This was my first attempt at writing a English lyrics since my time with Project Merleloid writing Friends back in 2016. I have a love-hate relationship with the English language, so it was a miracle how fast I wrote the lyrics for Lord Night to be very honest. The composing side was a bit of a “do it once, never look at it again” sort of affair, which suited this song since I managed to keep it short and concise, giving it a “lullaby” feel (I hope).

I wrote Lord Night coming down to the end of 2018, during the period of Winter in the Northern Hemisphere, and as such, the lyrics I wrote were inspired by sleep and rest, similar to how plants and animals would go into a state of hibernation during the colder months, but more in broad as this was a ‘Night’ song and not a ‘Winter’ song. In this song, the titular ‘Lord Night’ is the Master of the Night, Institutor of Rest. In my mind, the lyrics of this song showcased how the Lord would sing living organisms to sleep and rest in preparation to the days of Light.

If it wasn’t already obvious, this is a song in series that I hope to one day bring to you all. You can’t have Night without Day, right?

紀念謳歌 〜ab’di〜

Nico Nico Douga | Audiomack | Instrumental and VSQx

I also took part in Kaigai Kiyokura’s AHS 10th Anniversary Album, Teacher Student Android Association, where I wrote track #7 - 紀念謳歌 〜ab’di〜. Taking part in this collaboration was an enlightening experience to say the least, one that despite its challenges, I would do again. There are some things that I could have done better in terms of writing this song (especially in regards to the lyrics 😅) but considering the circumstances, I can honestly say that I’m proud of what we accomplished together.

紀念謳歌 〜ab’di〜 combines the meaning of two phrases: 紀念謳歌 (Hymn of Memorial) and ab’di (in life and death) to give ‘In life and even death, we will sing this Hymn of Memorial’. In essence, it’s supposed to be a anniversary song, a song of perseverance from the side of the Singer, that no matter what comes their way, they’ll continue to sing to their hearts’ content and to the joy of those who give them the opportunity to sing. Though some of that may have been lost in translation but I do hope the gist of it was conveyed.

I would like to thank DystoP, Yellow Matsu, and OrlyPep for tuning Kiyoteru, Yuki and miki respectively. I would also like to thank DystoP for mastering. This song would not have been complete without you all. Our illustrator hq, and video editor cliesel for doing such a great job on the visuals and bearing with me through my indecisiveness, thank you so much!

Closing

I intended to release another Kiyoteru song but that didn’t pan out as I’d like so next year? And hopefully flower will get some spotlight this time around? Maybe some other form of creative work? It is the only the beginning, so I’ll continue to do my best to improve and share my creations with you all.

See you all next year!
